Size Schmize

Last week I did what I had been dreading.

Pants shopping.

I desperately needed a new pair of black pants. I was volunteering for the North American Leadership Conference (NALC) and was required to wear black pants and a blue polo. The pair of pants I had been wearing were enormously big on me and I was terrified of a wardrobe malfunction in front of our elite donors.

So I went to Target (I’m still losing and don’t want to spend a lot on transition pants). Part of me was excited and another part of me was worried. I had all these thoughts that maybe the scale had been lying. What if I was in the same size?

Well I wasn’t.

Instead I had gone down (drumroll, please…)

One size.

One whole size. That’s. It.

I bought the pants—albeit bitterly. I mean, seriously? I’m down 42 pounds and only ONE little size?

I know, I know. I should be grateful that I am down at all. But I was definitely a little disappointed. I’ll just chalk it up to one more lesson learned along this journey.

In happier news, I am a regular platelet donor. I try to go every two weeks, but have been off my schedule and just went Tuesday for the first time this year. When they took my blood pressure (I’m fortunate in that I have always had very good blood pressure, despite my weight) they used the regular cuff. I have sat in that little room dozens of time waiting—completely mortified--while they search for the extra large cuff. This time when I told the person I needed the large cuff, the reponse was different.

“No you don’t,” she said. “The regular one will work just fine.”

It’s all about the little victories, right?

Awesome about the blood pressure cuff!! It is the little victories that count. Sorry about the pants thing - that would be discouraging. I wonder if it's just the cut; I have the same issue at target where I expect to be a size smaller after a 12-15lbs but I'm not. Hang in there. You are an inspiration!

Girl - you look fabulous - and I'm not even sure I told you that earlier today! You LOOK like you feel good :) and that is just awesome! You are losing layers everywhere - so just b/c you are down one pant size, you are probably down one shirt size as well - it's coming from everywhere! How fun that you don't need the large cuff!!! You are truly amazing, you know that? You have this wonderful personality - this magical way with words - an innate and amazing gift for volunteering- you give platelets - you are a hard worker - you got a TON going for you, girl! Keep it up!!!! I enjoyed lunch today!!!

Your weekend assignment? Go to the store and head to the pet aisle. Pick up two of those ginormous bags of kibble and walk around the store for a while.

Next? Put them down. Doesn't that feel better? THAT, my friend, is what you've lost.

I am SO SO proud of you!

Oh, and PS? Seriously, you look awesome! I can see some major transformations going on. :)

I know what you are feeling girl friend. I have lost 23 lbs and I had to go shorts shopping and can't find ANYTHING that fits. It is SO frustrating. Nothing fits and the one pair that did was only one size down too. I said heck I am not going to spend the money for only one size. We just have to keep at it. Thanks for the blog. I look forward to coming to work and reading it.

Don't worry. You're not alone. I would read about people losing a few pounds and they seemed to go down a ton of sizes, but I'd lose twice what they had and only seemed to drop 1 or 2 sizes, if any. Frustrating, but the reality is that you are still losing, which is the important thing. I'm proud of you and very happy for you!

Darling, what is the first Lemming rule? (well, maybe the second, behind you must own at least one Chanel Unity Glossimer). Sizes are bunk, vary from store to store, and mean absolutely nothing. I'm so proud of you and so excited for you and so inspired by you. Need some pictures of you in your snazzy new pants. :)
