Double, double toil and trouble

Ugh. Could my last entry have been any more whiny and self-indulgent?

Huge apologies for that. I can’t promise that I’ll always be sure of myself and happy in my posts, but I can promise I’ll share how I'm truly feeling. So let’s move past those pathetic ramblings and have some fun today.

Let’s talk about the Double Down.

Surely you’ve heard of it.

According to the KFC website, this “one-of-a-kind sandwich features two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets (Original Recipe® or Grilled), two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel's Sauce. This product is so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!”

They are even so bold as to put their nutritional info right on the page. You can try the Double Down for a mere 540 calories and 32 grams of fat.

Like a new iPhone debut, there were countdowns to the Double Down release day April 12. It was a trending topic on Twitter. People were actually excited about this.

Personally, I am horrified by it. I look at it and can almost feel my arteries clogging. I’m wondering, though, if that is a new reaction because of how I’ve been eating lately, or if I would find it appealing if I were still binging on a regular basis.

Because trust me when I say there are many things I wish were as unappealing to me as the Double Down. Here are a few:

Mayonnaise—I know. Gross. But gross AND super tasty.

Pizza—Perhaps the one food I really wish were devoid of calories.

Cheese—Y’all know how I feel about cheese. Mmm, cheese.

Other fast food—Including, but not limited to: Chick-Fil-A No. 1 combo meals, Chick-Fil-A milkshakes, Big Macs, Taco Bell Meximelts, Zaxby’s and Arby’s BLTs and curly fries.

Buttermilk ranch dressing—I’ve yet to find a really good low-fat sub for this.

Chips and dip—Particularly Doritos with French onion or chips and queso from Mexican restaurants.

Alcohol—See my post-wedding entry for more.

I was horrified too, and doubly so when I read that it's actually healthier than a big mac. Not that I eata tonne of those, but they wouldn't give me too much pause.

A ranch tip: Sometimes, I mix a tiny bit of low-fat ranch with cottage cheese. It's great on salads or raw veggies.

When I was hardcore about WW, I foudn that I would rather have an actual serving of white salad dressings than substitute the low-fat ones, since they taste funny. I found I would rather have less of something I like.

That Double Down IS HORRIFYING, SHOULD BE OUTLAWED!!! I bet $100 your brother will try it!

*For ranch you can get the Hidden Valley Mix and Mix it w/ Fat Free Sour Cream!~ Tasty

*I don't think anything could ever come close to replacing real Mayo and/or red wine!!

* Pizza- Get whole wheat pitas and top w/ tom. sauce 2% cheese and spinach w/ Chicken Breast chunks

This blog is all about you being real and NO ONE CAN BE EXPECTED TO BE UPBEAT AND HAPPY ALL OF THE TIME without faking it!!

You are doing a great job and I am SO proud of you! Love you, Beth

I read something recently that indicated that the Colonel might of fibbed a little @ the nutritional facts of this bad boy - they say it could be worse for you than they actually say it is - imagine that - LOL. I'm with you it looks disgusting!

i'm not sure if you enjoy playtime in the kitchen, but when you have a little time, i like to try to recreate those terrible restaurant or fast food meals with at least not-as-horrible options. Or if you're really craving but don't want to give in completely cut in it half and put away for later to make 2 meals out of it.

I think I've told you before about my Greek yogurt obsession. I absolutely love mixing a hidden valley ranch mix with plain greek yogurt. I've also used that, or other herbs mixed in, as a base for homemade pizza.

Boboli even has a whole wheat ready-made crust that is pretty tasty! low-fat mozz, chicken and veggies actually make it awesome :)

lover of all things tasty,

I have discovered the ultimate ranch dressing with practically no fat and few calories! Just mix a pack of Hidden Valley Ranch with all buttermilk instead of the recommended amounts of other stuff. It tastes fantastic and is only somewhat less thick than the way you are supposed to make it.
